Velo-city Global Adelaide 2014 is delighted to announce that fellow bike enthusiast, comedian, radio host, mathematician and author Adam Spencer will be our master of ceremonies at the Velo-city Global conference at Adelaide Convention Centre Tuesday 27 until Friday 30 May.

Adelaide Convention Centre employees get on their bikes

 

The Adelaide Convention Centre has successfully created a cycling culture of its own, with more than 20 per cent of the permanent workforce now choosing bikes over cars for their daily commute to and from work.

This is an increase of five per cent over the last two years.

Brave inclination - cyclists aim to scale Mt Lofty...with just three gears

 

CYCLIST Rebecca Bendall is determined to conquer Mt Lofty on a heavy, three - geared City Bike, in a local version of a British man's stunt on one of the Tour de France's most famous mountain climbs.

Velo-fringe Registrations Now Open

 

Registrations for the new community cycling festival Velo-fringe, to be held in May, are now open.

 

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said that Velo-fringe was an opportunity to show the diversity of South Australia’s bike culture.

 

A highlight will be the free cyclovia event where some city streets will be closed to traffic and taken over by people riding and walking.

Aussie Cycling Awards Go Global

 

After more than a decade celebrating and recognising the dedication and commitment of individuals and groups for their efforts to get more Australians cycling – the Cycling Promotion Fund Awards are going Global!
 
The once-in-a-generation opportunity to partner with Velo-City Global 2014 in Adelaide this May means two new international awards will be launched under the banner ‘Cycling Luminaries Awards’, Leadership and First Nations.

Florian Lennert announced as closing speaker at Velo-City Global Adelaide 2014

 

Florian Lennert is Director of the Intelligent City Forum. Intelligent City is a joint venture of the Innovation Centre for Mobility and Societal Change (InnoZ) in Berlin and LSE Enterprise, the venture and innovation division of the London School of Economics (LSE). He also serves as an Associate Director of LSE Enterprise. 

 

In a presentation shaped by systems thinking, innovation and future orientation, Florian Lennert will challenge car-centric paradigms and perhaps issue some challenges to decision makers and politicians about where the focus of attention and investment needs to be if we wish to create cities for coming generations that are truly sustainable and liveable.

Media release 19 December 2013 - Velo-city Global Adelaide 2014 program announced

The program for the world’s premier cycle planning conference, Velo-city Global Adelaide 2014, has been announced.

 

While high profile speakers such as Janette Sadik-Khan, Mikael Colville-Anderson, Ethan Kent, and Lawrence Frank have already been announced, further announcements are expected shortly so the overall theme of ‘Celebration of Cycling’ will be addressed by speakers from almost every continent.

 

A total of 195 abstracts have been accepted from presenters with a huge diversity of expertise and great stories to tell from more than 40 countries. They will cover topics such as national cycling strategies, getting more children cycling to school, engaging with the media, making space for bicycles on roads and cycle tourism, among others.

Taipei City will host Velo-city 2016, the world’s most important cycling conference.


ECF proudly announces that Taipei City will host the ECF Velo-city Global Conference for 2016. “The commitments of Taipei City and also from the federal political level of Taiwan are strong, and with a powerful support of the bicycle industry. Therefore it is our pleasure to acknowledge Taipei City as the host for Velo-city Global 2016”, says Manfred Neun, President of the European Cyclists’ Federation.

 

ECF Secretary General and Velo-city Series Director Bernhard Ensink said: “After Copenhagen, Vancouver and Adelaide we believe that Taipei is a really strong continuation of the Global series.”

Media release 12 November 2013 - New community cycling festival announced today

The State Government and Adelaide City Council today announced a new community cycling festival
to be launched next year that will see the city filled with events and activities that are related to
bikes and cycling.


Road Safety Minister Michael O’Brien and City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said the
first ever “Velo-fringe” will run alongside the Velo-city Global Adelaide 2014 international cycling
conference to be held in May next year.


Mr O’Brien said Velo-fringe was an opportunity to increase awareness in the community about
cycling and raise Adelaide’s profile as a cycling-friendly city.


“Velo-fringe will be like the Adelaide Fringe, just all about bikes,” Mr O’Brien said.


“It will be an exciting celebration of what’s great about bike riding, and just like the Adelaide Fringe,
it will be open access so anyone can be a part of it.

Media release 4 September 2013 - Speakers for Velo-city Global Adelaide 2014 confirmed

Three key note speakers have been confirmed for Velo-city Global Adelaide 2014, the world’s premier international cycling planning conference that will be hosted in Adelaide next year.

 

Janette Sadik-Khan, New York City's Department of Transportation Commissioner, Mikael Colville-Anderson, CEO of Copenhagenize and Ethan Kent, Vice President, Project for Public Spaces (PPS) will present to delegates from around the world on best practices for creating and sustaining cycling-friendly cities where bicycles are valued as part of daily transport and recreation.

 

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said the speakers were internationally recognised and respected experts in cities.

“Velo-city is the world’s premier international cycling planning conference. It’s a huge honour for Adelaide to be given the right to host the forum next year,” Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said.
